a story about scent memory~ ❥
If you’ve read the blog interviews, you’ll notice that I often ask about scent memory. I think it’s a great way to conjure up a moment in your life, a place, travels, childhood or your Great Aunt’s cooking. I remember the smell of my Great Aunt & Uncle’s home and the moment I step into the house now, a slide show of childhood memories passes through my brain. My Aunt Elinor always had freshly baked chocolate chip cookies which made her house feel so welcoming, Smells like Plumeria & Tuberose stick with me but a lot of my scent memories do include food!! I also remember my aunt making Frikadeller (Danish Meatballs) which I hid in my napkin under the table because even at a very young age, I didn’t like the taste/smell of beef or pork and of course. I didn’t want her to know that I wasn’t eating this Danish delight. I also love the smell of Chlorine in the pool, this brings back memories from my years on the swim team. Literally every time I smell Chlorine, it takes me back to fond memories of competition and friendships. I still swim and when I am in the water, I feel a sense of calm like meditation…it’s the memories of a life less complicated~
I love the science of scent and the memories that we can conjure up with just a wafting of Plumeria or the aroma of fresh baked cookies.
